We talk with Matt Phelan (@MattPhelanDraws), author of Bluffton, Around the World, and Storm in the Barn, about developing great graphic novels by starting with a well-written manuscript, re-imagining the story of Snow White, and Buster Keaton's role in the Golden Age of film.

Matt, I read BLUFFTON shortly after its release and just loved it. Your work is brilliant, to say the least :) I often have no idea what to expect when I listen to a podcast and have little-to-no knowledge of the artist himself. After this I feel like I really know your personality and character so well, though at a distance. Just so you know, I really AM an old fogey and was agreeing with everything you were saying about technology, etc. I LOVE tangible, paper-containing books with covers, especially for kids. And I love your rehearsal/stage play simile. The absolute PERfect way to describe the process. Just loved EVERYthing about this interview!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I could go on and on. I'm SO glad you did this interview with Matthew. SUCH a treat! Thank you both :)
Matt, I have no idea if you read this, but I popped in just now and needed to add that it was a pleasure meeting you (briefly) at the recent Princeton Book Festival. It was a tough choice, only buying one book, but I LOVE Druthers. Thank you!
